This study examined the potential benefits of a linear park as a neighborhood park. The major research questions are as follows: 1) How do linear parks function as neighborhood parks? and 2) Do they provide better accessibility than conventional neighborhood parks? The study begins by clarifying the definition, the characteristics, and the potential of a "linear park" based on a review and a reinterpretation of existing literature. Then it proposes a hypothesis about the functionality and accessibility of a linear park and presents a comparative case study of linear parks and conventional neighborhood parks. The results of the case study show that linear parks, when designed properly, can function as neighborhood parks accommodating most of the activities available in conventional neighborhood parks and provide better accessibility for pedestrians, particularly for physically weak individuals.
