In this study, the effect of building envelope properties on heating and cooling load in a office building was analyzed by a simulation method. In these days, the standards for thermal property of building envelope such as heat transmission coefficient(U-value), solar heat gain coefficient(SHGC), thermal capacity, window to wall ratio were strengthened to minimize the building energy demand. However, the reinforcement of the thermal properties for building envelope doesn't assure the building energy savings. To analyze the correlation between thermal properties and energy demand, total 40 simulation cases were accomplished. The analysis cases are composed of the changes of variables for building envelope and weather conditions. The analyzed building was a large scaled office building and the indoor heat generation rates were somewhat larger than as usual. The analyzed building sites were Seoul, Changi(in Singapore), St. Petersburg (In Russia) and Mecca (in Saudi Arabia). The results as follows: 1) The effect of U-value and thermal capacity of the building envelope on cooling load was relatively small because of the indoor heat generation rates of the analyzed office building were high. 2) Window to wall ratio and solar heat gain coefficient (SHGC) has had a great deal of influence on cooling load. 3) U-value and window to wall ratio highly affected the heating load. |
