Suwon is known as a historical city with the UNESCO World Heritage. But the importance of Modern times with a opportunity to become a city of Suwon is not well known. Studies for the modernization of Suwon have made from sociologists and historians, but the studies of architectural changes and the specific facts in the appearance of the city have been treated intermittently only as a single buildings or a photos. Therefore, a more detailed study requires. In this study, we try to collectively organize the flow of construction that plays an important role in the Modern history in Suwon. It is important to understand in depth all the figures and the positions of the building, such as specific geographic locations, uses, systems, especially with the drawings. The range of this study is buildings that was built during the 1896~1960's. The Modern architecture in Suwon identified in this study, a total of 97 groups. We have secured a total of 718 sheets of all drawings from the National Archives. However, this drawings were not exactly classified with architectural groups and uses. In this study, we summarized in these drawings, and identified such placement changes, building planes, and system changes clearly. Also, we created a map of the location and changes of the building. As a result, this basic data of Modern architecture in Suwon is retained through this study, so we expect to be an important research on Modern history as well as Modern architecture. |
