The science museum is quite different from the ordinary museum in terms of the concept, role, function, and purpose, however, uses the same evaluation method as the ordinary one for their exhibits. The science museum needs to introduce a new method of evaluation corresponding to its unique characteristics, and this is a very important theme in the field of exhibition. This study intended to establish an evaluation index for enhancing the quality of exhibits for the science museum and applied the index to actual cases to verify its validity in order to provide the foundation for the exhibit quality management that can be used when establishing a science museum in the future. First, the elements extracted from Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), Exploratorium related materials, and STEAM program were put together and similar/overlapping elements were filtered out to predetermine a total of 66 Exhibit Evaluation Elements and 20 important and essential Exhibit Evaluation Elements were determined through the discussion and survey with a domestic science museum expert. Finally, the 20 elements were applied to the exhibits of Daegu National Science Museum to evaluate the exhibits, and the significant conclusion concerning the corresponding museum was drawn. This study enhanced the clarity by limiting the subject of discussion to the 'exhibits' of the science museum by focusing on the fact that existing studies discussed the evaluation method in a broader scope such as the 'Exhibition' or 'Management' of the science museum and have not reflected international and universal views in terms of research method and also limited the base for extracting data to overseas data, differentiating itself from other studies. |
