Many previous studies have reported that the noises caused by the stack effect in high-rise buildings is one of the severe problems. This study aims to provide the information concerning the characteristics and sound pressure levels of the noises caused by stack effect. The stack effect occurs when the indoor air in the buildings is warmer than outside air. Unwanted airflows occur because of infiltration in high-rise buildings located in cold regions. The flow of air through cracks around the lobby entrance doors, elevator doors, and stairwell doors can create loud and annoying whistling. According to studies related to the stack effect, the noises cause discomfort to residents. We conducted field measurements of the noises caused by the stack effect at the elevator doors in two high-rise building. This study conducted the field measurement of the noises and analyzed the characteristics and sound pressure level of these noises. In addition, this study proposed the noise control method and evaluates the methods at elevator door. As a result, the noises were affected by difference pressure, temperature and air-tightness of elevator door. The more pressure difference and temperature difference is large, the more large the sound pressure level at elevator door. After the installation of airtight gaskets at elevator door, this way reduces the sound pressure level about 6~8dB(A). |
