Organic spaces are closely related to the root of human life along with existential configuration of nature. Thus architecture and spaces should be recognized as one field where human lives' communing with nature that embraces them is important, and a life is led based on organic traits. That is to say, a building does not exist as one single unit, but could be completed as a whole communicating with numerous relationships in its surroundings, and integrating them. Peter Zumthor is an architect who captured well communicational relationships that spaces establish in the buildings, and pursued the spaces which value nature and human life. His spaces had close ties with their environment, communicating with them, and he expressed basic property of nature in the spaces by using natural materials he could generally get in the surroundings. While going for essence of spaces, a range of experiences are widened that experiencers can have, and nature and spaces exist together in the context with a number of elements and time shared. When analyzing Peter Zumthor's works which exist as a field of communing in the context of surroundings and human lives, it reminds people that nature and space never exist as an individual constituent, but they should form a communicational relationship in harmony and coexistence. Organic traits cross over physical spaces in various relationships buildings make, and suggest possibilities of space which could extend in many ways such as psychological and cultural spaces. |
