The concept of space syntax, a typical methodology for the spatial analysis, puts its basis on two factors that are important for the spatial use behavior. The characteristic in analyzing the space syntax is, to some extent, different with the users’ space using behavior that takes advantage of actual space, thereby bringing about restrictions and limitations in the following aspects. (1) The unit space is of a value-neutral representation system, which is defined as homogeneous space that excludes the relevant factors influential to the structure, except spatial connections. (2) The spatial connection is based on spatial depth. (3) The prerequisite in all spatial structures is two-way traffic. (4) The closed structure is the prerequisite in which no space exists except the spatial subject to analysis. Given that such restrictive limitations involving the space syntax fail to reflect the actual situations of the spatial structure, agent-based modeling was incorporated as a possible means for the spatial structure analysis by coping with those limitations; for this purpose, the experiment of the proposed model was made to evaluate the validity and the effectiveness of the agent-based model by first of all comparing with space syntax, an analysis based on spatial interactions, whereby the similarity and difference between the level of integration that is a variable of spatial syntax and space sharing rate that is an index for agent-based analysis were verified to propose possibility of the new methodology. The results of this study are: 1) In the spaces with the same topological route, the modeling was analyzed with respect to its validity for use as a spatial analysis methodology through the analysis by applying spatial control variables. 2) Indexes for the agent-based modeling were applied to make possible the spatial analysis considering the user characteristic which supplements the limitations in methodologies. |
