The National Gugak Center (NGC), which has opened since 1951, is playing an important role of preserving and succeeding to traditional arts along with the other gugak centers established in Namwon, Jindo, and Busan. In particular, Yeak-dang in NGC, which was designed as a performance hall exclusively for gugak, has been remodeled several times to secure acoustic performance appropriate for gugak performance due to its aged facilities and gone through lots of changes in the form and acoustic performance of the performance hall from the early stage of its opening. However, the failure to obtain accurate data concerning acoustic performance of Yeak-dang makes it very difficult to design and construct a performance hall exclusively for gugak, which is to be built later. From this perspective, this study aimed to make field measurement of Yeak-dang in NGC and determine its architectural acoustic characteristics. |
