The number of performing arts centers and that of people visiting the centers have been increasing consistently. So is the number of academic research papers related to performing arts centers. This Study concentrated on the preceding research analysis especially with architectural issues and tried to analyse its study trends. The findings are: First, the number of research paper has been increasing as the number of performing arts centers and that of audiences increase. Second, the research items with the most importance turned out to be stage and auditorium. Studies on backstage area for performers and staffs are showing numerical increment recently, but lobby and foyer for audiences and circulation system for different roles of people are still not being studied enough, relatively. Third, the number of research on performing arts centers with exclusive use - for instance, opera houses, concert halls, etc. - is increasing, compared to those with multi-purpose. As people's income rises and living environment gets advanced, it seems performing arts centers with better spatial and sound quality are being demanded. Finally, most of the researches have leant toward grand performance halls in size wise for their architectural subject. Mid and small sizes should also get academic attention since the number of those is much greater in reality. |
