This study focuses on daylight performance assessments in adjoining spaces with different proportions to improve daylighting of atrium buildings. We investigates daylight metrics of central atrium type with monitor skylight. Climate-Based Daylight Modeling (CBDM) is applied as the assessment strategy and Spatial Daylight Autonomy (sDA) and Annual Solar Exposure (ASE) of LEED v.4(2013) are adopted as the dynamic daylight metrics to compare the results. The DIVA plug-in for Rhinoceros/Grasshopper as the parametric design tool is used for validation to effectively calculate daylight metrics using the Radiance/Daysim engine. In terms of the Well Index, Clearstory Height, Ceiling Height and Well Surface Reflectance, the variations of daylight level in the adjoining rooms have been analysed and some design strategies for supporting preliminary design decisions are presented.
