Only 377 public libraries existed in 2000, and the rest were established afterward. Even though this huge leap of quantity achieved in ten years or so is meaningful as it is, there is insufficient fundamental research and guideline for library space composition. As the library aims to provide more active services to accommodate more library users, most of the libraries built before 2000 make alterations in space composition or remodel whole/parts of the library building. The purpose of this study is to suggest main analytical elements that affected the changes in space composition of public libraries in Korea.
