This study proposes simultaneously estimating method of both viscous and friction damping using free-vibrated displacement or acceleration response of a structure. Single-degree-of-freedom(SDOF) system with both viscous and friction damping is mathematically analysed. In this system, both viscous and friction damping are estimated simultaneously using the difference of consecutive two peaks appeared in free-vibrated displacement or acceleration response. Numerical simulation on the proposed method showed that both viscous and friction damping can be easily and exactly estimated using free-vibrated displacement or acceleration response of a structure. |
