People recognized the existing outlet malls as places to get rid of the left over invertory from department stores. However, according to a consumer preference survey, suburban outlet malls have recently been re-evaluated as shopping spaces for spending time with families, and they are becoming popular destination for family visits. Suburban outlet malls offer well-priced products, and have facilities, convenient for enjoying leisure. Especially, while offline sales in the distribution industry have entered onto a low-growth period, and department store openings have also become saturated, suburban outlet malls which have cost-effective products and can be enjoyed by the whole family are emerging as the main strategies of the distribution industry. In order to respond to the changing trends in the consumer and retail industries, each company plans to open outlet malls, in particualr, "shoppertainment" outlet malls that combine entertainment and shopping, rather than department sotres. Using domestic cases, I identified the current conditions of outlet malls, and using foreign cased and the analysis of outlet mall types and characteristics of entertainment, I identified the trends of suburban outlet malls as well as their strengths and weaknesses. I plan to further study this concept in depth. I would like to introduce entertainment and space constructions so that they can be composed of future-oriented suburban outlet malls that can quickly respond to the consumer's paradigm and provide flexible and differentiated experiences. |
