In the city of Seoul, the Dongdaemun Stadium's playground facilities, which are underdeveloped and deteriorated in function, will be constructed as a complex space for relaxation, greenery, and culture linked with the Cheonggyecheon, and the Dongdaemun Stadium will be promoted as a mecca for the design industry that will lead the prosperity of future industries. Since then, Dongdaemun Design Plaza opened its doors on March 21, 2014, with the unconventional design of Zaha Hadid's organic form. The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial characteristics and spatial experiences of Dongdaemun Design Plaza, which is currently operating, and to grasp the function and role of the landmark facility constructed under the name of urban regeneration in the old city center. First, Zaha Hadid tried to physically create a landscape by integrating diverse historical, cultural, urban, social and economic elements of Dongdaemun through the architectural language of 'Metonymic Landscape'. Dongdaemun Design Plaza provides a new spatial experience as a landmark facility. The streamlined space, which is made up of an unstructured form with a blurred boundary between buildings and parks, provides a special spatial experience that has not been felt in the surrounding buildings. The Dongdaemun Design Plaza was constructed as a horizontal landscape with no boundaries between architecture and landscape in the form of a horizontally laid-out landscape, as opposed to vertical buildings surrounding it. This intention is to serve not only the visitors who visited the Dongdaemun Design Plaza but also the users of the surrounding commercial and nearby areas as a facility to share and not be occupied by providing a rest area as a park and open plaza. |
