본 연구는 루이스 바라간이 감성적 공간을 구축 할 때 공간 구성에 있어 전이공간을 다루고 그것에 접근하는 방식에 관해 주목하여 살펴봄으로써 루이스 바라간이 가지는 건축 철학이 공간에 어떻게 반영 되고, 전이 접근 요소들이 사용자에게 어떠한 감성적 체험을 제공 하는가에 대하여 구체적으로 파악하고 분석하여 기존 연구의 한계를 넘고자 한다. 그가 건축에서 전이공간을 다룰 때 나타나며 공간의 사용자에게 보편적, 감성적인 체험을 제공하는 전이 접근 요소들이 향후 다양한 건축의 전이공간 설계에 적용 될 수 있는 가능성과 그것을 위한 구체적인 전이 접근 요소를 도출 하는 데 본 연구의 목적을 둔다. (연구방법) 본 연구는 선행 연구 자료 분석과 문헌 조사를 통해 전이공간의 개념과 필요성에 대해 알아보고, 루이스 바라간의 건축 배경과 건축 사용 언어 등을 토대로 그의 공간개념의 특성을 4가지로 분류 하여 공간의 단순성, 순환성, 연속성, 보편성의 키워드를 도출한다. 이론 및 고찰 단계에서 도출한 키워드를 바탕으로 루이스 바라간 건축에서 나타난 전이 접근 요소를 크게 소통의 전이 요소, 빛의 전이 요소, 색채의 전이 요소 3가지로 분류하여 분석한다. 분석 사례 대상은 루이스 바라간 작품들 중 그의 건축철학이 확립된 그의 전성기인 제3시기(Quiet Revolution)의 건축 작품 중, 바라간 건축의 전이공간에서 감성적인 특성이 잘 나타난 4가지 주거작품을 선정하여 분석한다. (결과) 도출된 전이공간에 대한 전이 접근 요소의 특성이 모든 분석 사례에 고르게 적용 되고 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 전이공간의 공간적 특성으로 보았을 때, 바라간은 전이공간을 단순히 매개 역할로서의 도구로 본 것이 아니라 내. 외부의 소통까지 포함한 공간적 소통의 전이가 나타나는 또 하나의 새로운 공간으로 재창조 하고 있었다. 이는 사용자에게 좀 더 다채롭고 감성적인 공간감을 제공한다. 이 분석을 통해 루이스 바라간은 상호 작용하는 다양한 전이 접근 요소의 통합적 효과를 통해 사용자의 감성에 관여 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. (결론) 본 연구를 통해 루이스 바라간 건축에서의 전이공간은 단순히 매개의 역할만이 아닌 다양한 방식의 전이 접근 요소를 가지고 있고, 이러한 요소들의 상호작용으로 인하여 사용자가 전이공간에 들어섰을 때 공간과 소통하며 그 의미가 재창조 되는 새로운 공간의 역할을 하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 전이 공간에의 이러한 접근 방식의 요소는 전이 공간 뿐 아니라 다양한 건축 공간과 인간의 소통을 위하여 꼭 필요한 어떠한 요소로서 작용할 수 있다는 가능성을 확인 하였으며, 멕시코라는 지역성에 맞게 자신만의 건축철학을 확립한 루이스 바라간처럼 이러한 전이 접근 요소들이 우리나라의 기후와 특성을 고려하여 재해석 되어 다양한 공간에 적용 할 수 있어야 한다고 생각한다. |

This research aims to move past existing research on the architectural philosophy of Luis Barragan to better analyze and understand how details of his theory are reflected in his architecture. In addition, this study will explain how transference approach elements combine to create an emotional experience for users by, thoroughly examining Barragan’s composition of space through his ideas and approach to creating a transitional space. The purpose of this study is to identify a few transitional approach elements appearing in Barragan’s transitional space that offer users a general/emotional spatial experience. In addition, this study will estimate its possible applicability to transitions in spatial design of future architecture. (Method) The study will analyze the concept and necessity of transitional space by investigating previous research, and will determine keywords through classifying Barragan’s spatial concepts into four categories?simplicity, circularity, continuity, and universality?using his architectural background and language. Based on these keywords, the study will analyze and classify transference approach elements found in Barragan’s architecture into three categories: communicative transference elements, light transference elements, and color transference elements. Among the architectural works produced by Barragan during his golden day (Quiet Revolution), four of his residential works that most fully uncover the emotional characteristics of transitional space were selected for analysis. (Results) Results show that the characteristics of transference elements about the derived transitional space were uniformly applied to all cases analyzed. In terms of the spatial characteristics of the transitional space, Barragan not only understood the in-between role of the space, but also was able to recreate transitional spaces to become the site of spatial communication, while also embracing internal/external communication. This provides users with a more diverse emotional sense of the physical space. The analysis indicates that Barragan is involved with the user’s emotions through the integrated effects of various interacting transference approach elements. (Conclusions) This study shows that transitional space in the architecture works of Barragan has roles beyond being the space in-between other spaces. The transitional space has various transference approach elements, and the interaction of these elements with the space helps create a new meaning for the space. The study confirms that the elements and methodology of creating transitional space may also be necessary considerations for building other types of architectural spaces that incite communication between the space and the viewers standing in it. Like Barragan, who established his own architectural philosophy suiting the regional characteristics of Mexico, these transference approach elements should be re-interpreted for a Korean social climate, applying the characteristics identified above to various spaces. |
