Today, the demand and interest of domestic performing industry has been steadily increasing. Among them, musical is the most popular genre in terms of production and consumption. Accordingly, the role and scope of the public service space in theaters has beeen expanding and changing. The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the public space in musical theaters and provide a reference for planning. Blue Square, a major domestic musical theater was analyzed for this study. As a research method, the components of the public service space were selected through theoretical considerations and the characteristics and layout of each element were studied. In addition, interviews and surveys were conducted against the staff and audience. The findings are as follow: one can enter Blue Square at various levels. The location of the entrance and core is efficient and the vertical circulation is convenient. In addition, the location of the ticket office is accessible, but relocation is required due to the inconvenient circulation and inefficient space composition.?In addition to main rest area with narrow halls, F & B facilities were remodeled as the subserving rest area and various other facilities are also available. Through the large-scale remodeling, it has been transformed into a modern public service space with the addition of new event spaces such as book parks and galleries. There are other similar cases remodeling public service space of theaters other than Blue Square. This means the trends of the current venues are focused on the diversity and convenience of service spaces. Also, the demand of users for services is continuously increasing. In conclusion, the change and development of the public service space in theaters are needed and more research needs to be conducted in academia. |
