This study is about residence of active seniors who are in fifties or sixties, starting their retirement after 2010, and having active and enthusiastic attitude for their happy life. They do not recognize themselves as weak elderly but as healthy senior, thereby wish to have passionate and energetic life after retirement. Along with advent of such lifestyle, new word defining these people, 'Active Senior', appears. Active senior demand new style of residential environment different from previous residence for seniors which focused on care and protection. Especially, active seniors who are alone due to divorce and separation by death want residence that can protect privacy and make acquaintance network with other seniors, known as 'isolation with relationship'. This study will focus on Collective House that satisfies the residential conditions of active seniors. In Japan, collective house is evaluated as ideal residence for single household, thereby diversifying to various forms. By analyzing specialty of active senior and case study of design of collective houses in Japan, this study describes potential of collective house as alternative residence for seniors. |
