Purpose: Recently, cities in Korea are under constant research and interest in urban regeneration as measures against aging. Urban agriculture, which is one of the urban regeneration methods, has already been actively researched and practiced outside the country. However, since the enactment of the urban agriculture laws, Korea has not been actively pursuing social interest or follow - up research. The purpose of this study is to analyze the status of operation of vertical farms operated in Japan, its operation mode, and project proponents. Based on the results of the analysis, we will review the overall contents, characteristics and problems of plant factories. Method: After analyzing the concept and status of urban agriculture and vertical farming in Japan, we identify the scope of defining urban agriculture and vertical farms legally defined in Japan and the types of proven cases. Based on the results of the analysis, we have extracted the status and characteristics of vertical farms in Japan. Result: Japanese vertical farms are classified into vertical farms that utilize the building part and vertical farms that utilize the entire building depending on the mode of operation and business method. The reason for utilizing the building is to use empty buildings, idle factories, etc. as a way to reduce initial investment costs. |
