(연구배경 및 목적) 알바로 시자의 건축을 이해하는 데 있어 여러 가지 특징을 통해 그 내용을 살펴 볼 수 있지만 일반적으로 회자되는 것 이외에 본질적인 면으로 파고들어 보면 어떤 것이 있을까 하는 의문을 가지게 되었다. 따라서 시자 건축의 본질을 살피기 위하여 시자 특유의 선을 우선 직선과 곡선으로 나누어 살펴보기로 하였으며 직선에 의한 불규칙 구성 연구에 이어 곡선유형 및 구성에 관한 연구를 진행하게 되었다. 시자 건축에서의 곡선은 자유분방하면서도 전체의 분위기를 결정할 수 있을 정도로 명확하게 존재감을 주고 있지만 워낙 50년 이상의 작품 활동 기간 중 많은 작품에서 사용되어 단순하게 그 성격을 정의하기가 어려우므로 그 유형을 분류하고 더 나아가 구성 특성까지 파악하여 시자의 건축을 더욱 분명히 이해하는 것에 연구의 목적이 있다. (연구방법) 우선 시자의 건축에 있어 영향을 주었던 요소들을 찾아내고 시자의 전 작품 중 평면, 입면, 단면, 배치도, 상세도, 스케치 등의 풍부한 도면 자료가 있는 작품 중에서 명확하게 형태의 근거를 확정할 수 있거나 추정할 수 있는 103개의 작품에 나타난 유형을 분석한다. 특히 시자의 주요한 건축적 특징인 곡선의 유형과 구성상 특성이 나타나는 건물을 그 범위로 정하게 된다. 연구의 방법으로는 시자가 직접 기술하거나 다른 비평가에 의해 표현된 내용을 바탕으로 시자 건축에서 드러나는 선에 대한 인식을 찾고 다음으로 대상 작품을 설명할 수 있는 각종 도면과 작품에 대한 설명 등에서 나타나는 기하학적 특성을 찾아내며 이 과정 중에 도면에서 표현된 기준선과 기준점 등을 통해서 선의 기하학적 특성을 검증하고 도면에 표현되지 않은 부분에 대해서도 기하학적 원리를 찾아 정리하여 유형적 특성을 밝혀 시자의 설계 방법에 접근할 수 있도록 한다. (결과) 시자는 다양한 방법으로 곡선 평면 구성을 하였는 바 곡선의 유형과 구성적 특징에 따라 다음과 같은 결과를 도출하였다. 1)시자는 원, 원호, 타원, 나선, 불규칙한 곡선을 사용하였으며 나선과 불규칙한 곡선은 더욱 복잡하교 자유로운 성격을 가진다. 2)위의 곡선을 사용하여 두 직선 사이 곡선, 동심원 구성, 중심과 크기가 다른 두 원호 구성, 잠식형 구성 등의 평면 구성을 한 것을 밝힌 것이 이 논문의 독창적인 결과라 할 수 있다. (결론) 이렇게 곡선에 의한 불규칙 평면의 형태적 특성 및 구성에 대하여 살펴보았으며 위와 같이 규정된 곡선형의 구성에 부분적으로 혹은 전체적으로 변화를 주어 미묘한 매스감과 공간감을 부여하는 것이 시자의 건축에서 가장 중요한 핵심 요소 중의 하나라는 것을 확인하였으며 직선에 의한 불규칙한 평면 구성에 대한 연구와 함께 시자의 고유한 형태 및 구성 방법에 대한 이해를 더할 수 있을 것으로 보인다. |

(Background and Purpose) To understand Alvaro Siza's architecture, we look into the generally known characteristics; however, there will be some questions about the essence of Siza's architecture. In order to discover essential elements, one must separate Siza's line concepts into straight lines and curved lines. Following a study of the irregular plan compositions is a study of curved forms and plan composition. If we understand the line, we will be able to correctly understand the architecture made by the line. This study aims to categorize and analyze the curved forms and plan compositions of Siza's works, because it is very hard to define the characteristics of the curved line Siza used in many works over 50 years. (Method) There are several background reasons for using the curved form: First, free sketch; second, drawing and transformation; third, geometric composition. The study method will first clearly identify all of the elements that influenced the curved form of Siza's architecture. Second, the formal types of 103 works will be analyzed. Because there are vast numbers of cases and types, it is very difficult to account for all of them, so the range of this research will be limited to the forms and plan composition of curved lines. Third, in order to analyze the characteristics of the composition principles, the study is constructed to categorize various cases of composition type. Finally, based on the results of the analysis, the interrelationships between types and plan compositions will be presented. (Results) The analysis derived the following correlations from the types of irregular forms and plan compositions. First, Siza adopted the circle, ellipse, spiral, and irregular curve. The spiral and irregular curves are more complex and free. Second, using these curve forms, Siza created various compositions, such as space between two straight lines, concentric circles, arcs of different widths, and overlapping compositions; this point is what makes the study unique. Third, the "space between straight lines" type is composed in such a way as to smooth mass and create spatial hierarchy, while the "concentric circle" type enhances the spatiality of curves. Fourth, the overlapping composition type is newly defined as an original concept of Siza. Furthermore, in more recent works in which the scale of building increases and the programs vary, plan compositions become more complex. (Conclusion) This study clarifies the details and nuances of the delicate forms and compositions of the curved plans in Siza's architecture, and can be suggested as a practical methodology for architectural work analysis to be applied while designing architectural works. With further study of the straight line, irregular forms, and plans, another essential aspect of Siza can be fully understood. |
