Due to social and economic growth in Korea, there has recently been a rapid increase in the aged population which makes up a large portion of the major urban population. This change of rapidly entering an aging society has become a major domestic issue that requires changes in existing infrastructure. The purpose of this study is to examine the changes in the types of existing infrastructure through the mutual interaction and integration of users from the planning stages of construction in order to solve the issue of the rapidly aging society in Korea. To this end, the concept and categorization of intergenerational exchanges were defined. This study could categorize spatial arrangement methods into 'divided', 'mixed' and 'interaction' types with regard to inter-generational exchange spaces by classifying types of senior and children facilities as well as the required facilities. Further, in this study, the types, execution status and spatial status of programs regarding complex facilities for seniors and children were examined based on case studies on developed countries that experienced this change earlier as well as domestic case studies. Through this process, for complex facilities for seniors and children, spatial roles for exchange between generations were found to be important. Furthermore, multipurpose spaces that can be used according to programs for children and seniors and in line with spatial service programs in which interaction occurs naturally by having the entrances of and passages to facilities for seniors and children in one place for intergenerational exchange were also identified. Such exchange of welfare facilities for seniors and children can facilitate interactions between the two generations and integrate children and senior citizens, whose spaces were separately divided in Korea. Such exchange spaces may make it possible to find the viewpoints of "intergenerational exchange" for the welfare of senior citizens and children as well as children's education and the like, which are currently insufficient in Korea. |
