Currently, one out of every 10 elderly people aged 65 and over is suffering from dementia. Experts explain that dementia is part of geriatric disease, so if the elderly population increases, the number of patients will increase. The purpose of this study was to investigate the elderly nursing home, which is a form of medical welfare facility for the elderly, considering the elderly with dementia. The research subjects of this study were selected as one of the collections of the YWCA Welfare Project in Sungnam, Gyeonggi-do. The specific method of the research is as follows. First, review the literature and identify characteristics of public space, affordance, and demented elderly in elderly care facilities. Second, provide guidelines for living room, lobby, and hall of elderly nursing home, which is a common space for the elderly with dementia, through surveys of selected elderly care facility and user observation surveys. The following guidelines are presented through the analysis of affordability of the case facilities. First, for the sake of the elderly, use flooring to prevent slippage, and corner the furniture. Second, provide a space where elderly people can experience similar societies in order to improve sociality in the elderly care facilities. Third, use floor markings and guiding marks to improve accessibility. |
