As one of the major social changes, increase in single households, became apparent and resulted in housing instability especially for young single adults and newerly married couples. For the young households, more diverse and affordable housing alternatives need to be provided. The purpose of this study is to identify lifestyles of young adults and newerly wed and their housing preferences, and to investigate the relationship between the lifestyles and choice and preferences for housing features. For this study, questionnaire survey was conducted. A total of 436 questionnaires were collected through an online survey using a self-administrated questionnaire. Using SPSS 20, factor analysis and cluster analysis were used. As a result, five lifestyles (the Information seeker, the Personality seeker, the Future oriented, the Self-development oriented, and the Utilitarian) were identified. The participants were categorized as five lifestyles using cluster analysis. Each group according to lifestyle showed different housing preference and choice for housing option. Some housing features such as dress room installation instead of bath tub installation were preferred regardless of lifestyle type. Utilitarian and Self-development oriented people showed more willingness to purchase energy saving housing such as zero housing than other groups. |
