Japanese modern architect Yoshio Taniguchi was influenced by Mies van der Rohe and his father, Yoshiro Taniguchi,and Mies van der Rohe and Yoshiro Taniguchi were influenced by German neo-classical architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Thispresents evidence of connection between Yoshio Taniguchi and Karl Friedrich Schinkel and suggests that despite being ofdifferent eras, the essence of architecture each of them pursued were identical. In order to present evidence of connectionbetween Yoshio Taniguchi and Karl Friedrich Schinkel, the fact that architectural feature of Karl Friedrich Schinkel can be seenin the works of Yoshio Taniguchi through Mies van der Rohe and Yoshiro Taniguchi presented the basis for argument anddrew out historical nature, suitability, and the artistic nature as keywords of Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s architecture. Based on thefollowing, Yoshio Taniguchi’s architectural works were analyzed. This dissertation presents the basis for the argument thatarchitecture is an academic discipline with continuity as it evolves over time rather than changing and probes new possibility formodern architecture, which has been standardizing since modern times, by analyzing the architectural connection betweenYoshio Taniguchi and Karl Friedrich Schinkel despite being of different time and setting. That it found a balance betweenfunction and beauty while not losing the historical root of their architecture and using appropriate material for use and functionsuggests the future direction of architecture. |
