As society became more complex, the needs of users diversified. Accordingly, the public library, which is a basic public cultural facility, is indispensably required to be complex. However, today's public library complexation has focused on functionality and economics, and remains in the complex of simple heterogeneous facilities that lack linkage between programs. As a solution to this, this study attempted to look at a practical combination of public libraries through linkage between programs for efficient use of space and provision of integrated services. For this, This study examined Rem Koolhas's library architecture, which attempted to solve the problem of diversity and complexity in modern society through the investigation of the limitations between the architecture of uncertainty and the program. As a result of conducting research and analysis on his architectural concept and project, it was found that various elements such as void space utilization and inclined planes, escalators, bridges, and openings were actively used as a strategy for complexing programs. Rem Koolhaas used these elements to blur the boundaries between programs and create a complex space. These elements also directly link disparate programs, creating a free flow system without a center. As a result, it naturally induces movement between heterogeneous programs and creates the possibility that various forms of connection can occur. As such, it was found that Rem Koolhas reinforced the connection between programs and built a complex space through the use of void space and application of various elements. Therefore, such a strategy is considered to be an alternative to simple facility complexization when planning public libraries in the future. |
