To provide the basic architectural design information with characteristics of spatial configuration in RCR Architects’ architectural works, this research analyzed RCR Architects’ 24 projects according to the spatial configuration with its relationship and the characteristics of diverse architectural design tendencies, and categorized them by topological types. The findings of this study are summarized as followed. First of all, there are the established concepts of RCR Architects’ architectural design such as placeness, regionalism, communication with nature, symbiosis, and harmony & equilibrium based on architectural phenomenology. The second one is that topological design types in RCR Architects’ architectural works can be classified with spatial, programmatic, and visual penetrations, indoor and outdoor voids, landscape architecture, and folding with architectural elements. Lastly, the main tendency of RCR Architects’ design is phenomenological atmosphere through natural elements, but they attempt to combine with complexity architecture and diverse topological design methods. RCR Architects’ design can be comprehended as the multidisciplinary combination with architectural phenomenology, complexity architecture, and architectural topology and it can be a cutting edge tendency in contemporary architecture. |
