As the role and function of art museums develop in line with the perception of the times, this study attempted to understand the space composition of art museums for visitors and quantitatively analyze physical architectural characteristics. The purpose is to provide basic data for planning a visitor-centered art museum in the future. Accordingly, Seoul National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, which was opened in 2013, and the Gwacheon Museum, which was opened in 1986, were compared and analyzed. As for the research method, first, the spatial composition of the case hall was investigated through field trip, and detailed areas were classified according to the spatial function. Second, through theoretical consideration, the physical architectural characteristics that appear in the visitor-centered art museum are derived. Third, the spatial syntax variables of Space Syntax for quantitatively grasping physical architectural characteristics and the visible analysis indicators of temporary market analysis (VGA) for identifying visual structures were extracted. In order to quantitatively understand the spatial characteristics of the visitor-centered art museum, this study complemented the spatial syntax variables and visual analysis indicators, and found out that there are notable differences in three aspects: connectivity, transferness, and openness. |
